Our Eco Efforts

Oct 27, 2020 | blog

We are always looking to do better, we aren’t perfect, but the environment is at the forefront of our minds with every decision we make in embers & roots. Whether it is a new product design, workshop improvement or packaging – the impact on the environment is always discussed and also the question of … can we do better?

Here are a few things that we already have in place:

BOXES

Our boxes are from FSC certified sources and can be recycled, composted or reused. We aim to reuse boxes we receive from suppliers if they are in good condition. If we receive boxes in poor condition we send these to be recycled.

We do not automatically provide gift boxes for most of our products, most packaging usually ends up in the rubbish as soon as it is opened however, we understand that first impressions are important and therefore curate some carefully selected gift sets in beautiful custom made boxes. These boxes are so well made they can be reused, re-gifted or simply recycled. We think our products look lovely as they are though.

PACKING NUGGETS

The packing nuggets we use are eco friendly and dissolve in warm water. You can reuse them to protect fragile items in the post or they can be composted. So far we have found that these offer the best protection.

PAPER

We use recycled paper to wrap and pack your items. This can be recycled again or composted.

TAPE

Our paper tape can be left on your boxes to be recycled. On few occasions we use a woven strength tape if the box is extremely heavy.

CANDLE JARS

Our amber jars are plastic free and can be reused or recycled. There are multiple reuses for our jars. Head over to our Instagram highlights for inspiration.

REED DIFFUSERs

Our reed diffusers are plastic free and can be reused or refilled.

SOLAR

We use solar panels to run our workshop.
