Eventide

The sun leaves something behind

In September the evenings arrive earlier and softer, and the last of the light seems to linger on purpose, gold along the field edge.

Eventide is that hour made to keep: orange and saffron warming into amber, the day settling like the beck after rain.

Golden, mellow, quietly grateful

Mood

Golden, mellow, quietly grateful

It is the scent of dusk drawn out: warm fruit and soft spice, the day ending better than it began.

Landscape

Picture long shadows over cut grass, swallows gathering on the wire, and the first cool breath of autumn in the air.

Sitting with the last of the light

Light it as the sun goes, and stay where you are until the room and the sky have both gone soft.
