Winter Spice

Midwinter, kept warm

December slows the barn to its gentlest work. The last orders leave wrapped in Kevan's crates, and the workshop smells of clove, cinnamon and pine sap.

Winter Spice is the season distilled: citrus peel and clove over cinnamon and soft woods, the glow of the year's darkest month.

Warm, spiced, deeply comforting

Mood

Warm, spiced, deeply comforting

It is the scent of the house at its kindest: spice in the air, lamps on early, everyone home.

The valley white-edged and holding its breath

Landscape

The valley white-edged and holding its breath

Picture frost on the barn roof at midday, breath hanging in the yard, and one lit window telling you which way home is.

The long dusk of the shortest days

Ritual

The long dusk of the shortest days

Light it as the afternoon closes, and let the smallest flame do what midwinter asks: hold the warmth.
